Case Studies
Connect the Dots
A political candidate had incredibly elaborate personal finances which were documented in lengthy financial disclosures. We worked with a software developer to build a tool that analyzed and cross-referenced reams of data from the financial disclosures and other data sets to flag potential conflicts of interest.
Flood the Zone
A state policy organization wanted to stop a bill in the state legislature that would be harmful to the state’s economy. We developed a policy research report, which the organization used to develop presentation decks, handouts, and other collateral used in townhall information sessions with local citizens. We also utilized this policy research to build content for a digital advertising campaign focused on getting citizens in key districts to call their legislator and ask them to stop the bill. We managed the operation of the digital campaign and the call-to-action program, and the bill was pulled from consideration.
Double Irish
A political candidate was rumored to be using an offshore tax avoidance scheme for their business known as the “Double Irish.” We found and followed a trail of public documents from the United States, to Ireland, the Netherlands, and the Cayman Islands to make the case, which led to critical earned media stories on the candidate.
Take a Look Under the Hood
A company was in a high stakes contract negotiation with a client and risked losing business to a set of other companies. We researched the rival companies’ executives, including directing an extensive field research operation, and documented what would be numerous areas of concern for the company’s client. This research helped the company successfully make the case to stick with them over the competition.
Find Your Friends
A client was building a coalition and wanted to identify more potential allies. We identified several affinity groups that seemed to be allied with the coalition’s goals. We then pinpointed key leaders and valuable influencers, and the coalition successfully incorporated them to its network of advocates.
Make the Case
A group of shareholders led a proxy fight against a company’s inept board of directors. We documented the failed records of the members of the board of directors, both at the company in question and on other company boards on which they served, through the analysis of company financial records, pension records, and other public information sources. This research helped the shareholders make their case to other influential shareholders.
Map the Network
A coalition was working to counter the ground game established by a large trade association and its member companies that were pushing harmful legislation. We combed through lobbying reports, campaign finance data, nonprofit tax returns, and academic paper funding disclosures to map out the years-long influence campaign mounted by the companies and trade associations. All of this information was used to drive earned media and build new narratives on the overwhelming influence wielded by the companies and trade associations.
Get It Out There
A company was engaged in a lawsuit with a former client company. We documented the client company’s extensive history of regulatory violations and placed stories about the company’s business practices in local media. We then identified key influencers in the client company’s orbit and directed a digital campaign to promote the stories to this network of influencers.
